Richard Rohm Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kepner Funeral Home - Elm Grove on Apr. 13, 2025.
Richard "Boogar" Rohm, 69, of Dallas, WV, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born January 30, 1956, in Waynesburg, PA, son of the late Rex E. and Dixie Smalley Rohm.
Boogar retired from Consol's Bailey Mine after 38 years. He was proud of his black coal dust covered hands and blue collared way of life: a friend of coal for life. Not suited for a retired way of life, he returned to work at Elmhurst as a part-time maintenance man where he was loved by all. He cherished his co-workers and the residents. Richard was also a member of the Sand Hill United Methodist Church.
Boogar was rarely seen without a hat on his head, a collection that drove his wife, Kathy, crazy. Most of the time he was proudly sporting the flying WV. He was a WVU football season ticket holder for years and a founding member of "Boogar's WVU Tailgate Team" where he was known as the "Moonshine Man" in the parking lot. Boogar shared a special bond with his group of friends, loved his Tennessee group fiercely, and had a few guys who remained as close as brothers til the end.
While raising his daughters, Boogar and Kathy's home became a second home for countless friends. Whether the car was packed for vacation or the living room was overflowing with laughter, every girl was treated like his own.
His home is affectionately known as the Rohm Compound, where you can often hear karaoke echoing from the garage and grandkids splashing and giggling in the pool. Watching Pap dive off the diving board is one of their favorite summer memories. His property was and will remain the family hub.
But above all this, he was the best husband, dad, and pap to his girls and the boy. He rarely missed a ball game, dance recital, or cheer competition. He made sure they knew how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. While their hearts will forever be broken, a super hero gained his real superpowers and his legacy will never be forgotten.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Donnie Rohm and sister-in-law, Carol Rohm.
Boogar is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathy Dague Rohm; two daughters, Marlena (Joe) Mlodzik, Samantha (Aaron) Kestner; three grandchildren, Addison (Addie Kam) & Sydney (Syddie Kate) Mlodzik, Jameson (The Boy) Kestner; three siblings, Rick Rohm, Greg Rohm, Kim Rohm; two sisters-in-law, Debra Dague, Sue (Eric) Zuelzke; brother-in-law, Bill (Ann) Dague; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 3:00 PM until the time of service at 5:00 PM at Kepner Funeral Homes, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV (304-242-2311) with Reverend Debra Dague officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Elmhurst Activities Department, 1228 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003 and Sand Hill United Methodist Church, 2781 Sand Hill Road, Wheeling, WV 26003.

Our deepest sympathy to Kathy and family. The Rohm family has been a big part of our lives since their daughter and our daughter became friends in kindergarten. Richard will be missed dearly, but now is at peace.
