Richard Francis Royer

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Grumps" Francis Royer, who departed this world on September 20, 2025, in Williamsburg, VA. Known for his welcoming smile and big heart, he brightened the lives of all who knew him, living with respect, gratitude, and a feeling of fulfillment in the life he lived.

He was born and raised in New York City and then graduated from Union College in Schenectady, NY with a bachelors in industrial administration, focused on accounting and engineering. He brought both dedication and fun to his career, retiring as Chief Financial Officer at King's Creek in Williamsburg.

At home, he was a devoted husband and father, a history buff, an avid reader of what seemed like any genre, a fan of classical, opera, jazz, and crooner music, a classic movie and car fan, and the gracious host to family, friends, and colleagues at his home, adorned with endless books and historical artifacts.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife Kathryn Royer, he leaves behind his daughter Kimberly Richbourg and her husband Thomas; his son Weston Royer and his wife Jamie; and his treasured grandchildren Avery and Ella Royer, Stanley and Joseph Richbourg, and Kristen Reid and her husband Sam. His legacy of love, joy, and mentorship will live on in their hearts forever.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Bucktrout Funeral Home in Williamsburg, where family and friends are invited to honor and remember his remarkable spirit.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Richard's name to the American Civil Liberties Union or The Salvation Army.
