Richard "Dick" Rudy

After a long and richly blessed life, Richard "Dick" Rudy, with a sparkle in his blue eyes and a touch of sassy charm, left this world for a well-deserved rest in heaven on the morning of August 22. His beloved wife of 73 years, Adele, was by his side, providing comfort and love in his final moments.
Dick was born and raised in Fresno, California, the cherished son of Norman and Grace Rudy. He grew up alongside his brother, Norman Rudy, M.D., and his sister, Marilyn Therese Rudy, CSJ, both of whom preceded him in death.
A serendipitous meeting in San Francisco led Dick to his soulmate Adele, and their whirlwind romance culminated in marriage just three months later. Dick's bold spirit took him to the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he served with honor for two years. Upon returning to Fresno, he became a well-known figure in the community as the owner of Rudy's Stores, a position he held from the 1950s until the mid-1970s.
Dick's zest for life was as boundless as his energy. His engaging personality and enthusiastic involvement in his community were evident through his many roles and activities. He served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, and held positions on various hospital boards, including past presidencies at Rotary, San Joaquin Country Club, and Monterey Peninsula Country Club. His commitment extended beyond business; he was a dedicated supporter of his children's performances and sports games, and later, he proudly cheered on his grandchildren with the same fervor.
A devout Catholic, Dick's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a lay leader and Eucharistic Minister for many years, joining the Order of Malta in 1993. His spiritual journey took him to Lourdes Pilgrimages and as an ambassador to the Marshall Islands, reflecting his deep commitment to service and faith.
In the late 1970s, Dick and Adele relocated to the Monterey Peninsula, where Dick continued his passion for business by opening a men's store in Carmel. They relished their time there before moving to Washington in 2003 to be closer to their family, eventually residing in Port Ludlow, Bellevue, and finally, Olympia.
Dick leaves behind his devoted wife Adele, their two surviving children, Kathleen Galaktianoff (Pete) and Robert Rudy, along with his cherished grandchildren Erin Fossen (Phil), Matt Garner (Jamie), Rebecca Stratton, David Stratton, Nicholas Stratton (DeAnne), Andrew Stratton, and Robert Stratton. His daughter Sandy Stratton preceded him in death. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
Dick's generosity, devotion, and unmistakable sass will be deeply missed. His legacy of love, laughter, and service will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
