Richard Runyan was born on December 4, 1950, to Stanley and Maxine Runyan in Indianola, Iowa. After a long and courageous battle, Richard is now at peace with the Lord.

Richard grew up in Indianola and graduated from Indianola High School. He spent his entire adult life living in or around the Indianola area, a place he proudly called home. Richard devoted his working career to the Iowa Department of Transportation, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.

An outdoorsman at heart, Richard had a deep love for camping, hunting and fishing. These skills he proudly passed down to his nephews. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada over his lifetime. In the spring time you would find Richard in the woods hunting morel mushrooms which he often shared with family. He also cherished his fur babies-both dogs and cats-who brought him great comfort and joy. Richard was a people person who loved to socialize and maintained many friendships throughout his life. One of his favorite pastimes was attending dances, especially when his brother's band was playing.

Richard is survived by his sister, Karla (Dennis) Derrickson; his brothers, Jeff (Julie) Runyan and Joel Runyan; seven nieces and nephews; 15 great-nieces and great-nephews; four great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; two granddaughters and many beloved cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley G. Runyan and Maxine L. Runyan; and his grandparents, Charles and Inez Runyan, and Clarence and Vera Herold.

Richard will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his kindness, and the joy he found in spending time with family and friends.

A celebration of life for Richard is being planned for a later date. Memorials in memory of Richard may be given to Wesley Life Hospice or the American Kidney Fund.
