Richard Franklin Sams

Richard Franklin Sams, age 73 of Duluth, died February 24, 2023 surrounded by friends and family. Richard was born in Knoxville, TN on June 8, 1949. He earned a full scholarship to the University of Tennessee, receiving a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was then able to have a long and successful career in the computer networking and telecommunications industry. Richard most notably desired to serve the body of Christ and spent many years as a Deacon at North Metro First Baptist Church, working with the Youth Ministry, a member of the Board of Trustees at Truett-McConnell University, overseeing the musical ministries of dozens of artists, and pouring into countless people who needed the see the love of Jesus on display.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sams; son, Benjamin Sams (Melanie) of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Karis Anita Sams and Adalyn Ruth Sams; sister, Beth Sams of Sevierville, TN. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley Sams and Chris Sams; parents Franklin and Martha Sams.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, March 4, 2023 at North Metro First Baptist Church. 1026 Old Peachtree Road NE. Lawrenceville, GA 30043. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until the service begins.
