With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of James "Russell" Hancock, age 88, on May 18, 2025. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Russell was a kind and caring soul, and his life was a testament to generosity, joy, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Born in Lake City, South Carolina, in 1936, Russell spent his formative years at the John de la Howe School (Orphanage) from 1945 to 1954. He later earned his associate's degree from the University of Georgia in Athens. A proud Army veteran, he served from 1956 to 1959. He lived and worked in the Atlanta area for 51 years.

Russell dedicated 38 years of service to the Defense Logistics Agency (DCASR) in Marietta, Georgia, before retiring. A strong believer in community, he faithfully attended The Berkmar United Methodist Church for over four decades.

Above all, Russell's heart belonged to his beloved wife, Norma Faye Hancock, who remained his guiding light until her passing in 2000. He is survived by his two sons, Mark Hancock and Joel Hancock; two granddaughters; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Norma "Faye" Hancock; and his sisters, Florence Jacqueline Salmonsen and Norma Jean Sorrow.

Russell leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Russell's life will be held on Thursday, June 5th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at The Nett Church, Berkmar Campus (675 Pleasant Hill Rd., Lilburn, GA 30047). In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Nett Church, Berkmar Campus.
