Richard "Rick" Alfonso Sandino was born in Texas City, Texas on March 19, 1949. He passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023, at UTMB League City Campus at the age of seventy-four.
Richard graduated from La Marque High School in 1967 and then served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972 while completing a tour of duty in Vietnam. After separating from military duty, he attended business school in Houston, Texas and subsequently received an Associates Degree in Applied Science for computer programming from College of the Mainland.
On November 4, 1972, he married Gloria Leticia Ruiz of Texas City, Texas and had three sons together from 1974 to 1985. After completing college, he spent the majority of his years working for various petrochemical and insurance companies in Houston, Texas and then went into vehicle sales in Harris and Galveston counties before retiring.
He was an avid guitar player and member of a high school band called The Missing Links. He also enjoyed muscle cars and was a member of a local Trans-Am club. His other passions in life included cheering on the Houston Oilers/Texans, cooking, watching wrestling on TV, and being the life of the party with his sharp wit and jokes. He took great pride in everything he did and was a stickler for little details. You could also find him fiddling with rubber bands and always had one wrapped around his finger or in his pocket.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Alfonso and Mary Grace Sandino; sister, Dulie Sandino; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He is survived by his sons, Richard Kris Sandino and wife Yesenia, Robert Kasey Sandino and wife Chrystal, Andrew Kerry Sandino; sister, Jalayne Henderson and husband Dan; grandsons, Cole and Austin Fleming; granddaughter, Christin Hammill; grandson, Michael Warner and wife Caelie; grandson, Bryce Warner; great-granddaughters, Ellie and Adalie Warner; and former spouse, Gloria Leticia Phelps.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 5 – 6:00 P.M. with 6:00 P.M. Memorial Services on Monday April 24, 2023 at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, TX 77591.
