Richard Dean Schellhorn

Richard Dean Schellhorn (86) was born December 14,1938, on a farm near Gladstone, NE to Henry & Dora (Weiss) Schellhorn. He was the youngest of 9 children, and when he was 6 months old, his mother passed away. He lived with relatives in Deshler & Chester, NE until returning to the family farm. He attended various schools in the Gladstone area.

On July 27th, 1964, Richard was united in marriage to Thelma Simacek of Tobias, NE. This union bore 2 children. Chris Richard & Cherie Marie. They lived on a farm near Gladstone for 34 years, before moving to Gilead in 1998.

He was a lifelong farmer. He also worked for other farmers and in carpentry and construction. He enjoyed playing cards, drinking coffee, and visiting family and friends.

He was a proud father, grandfather to 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Chris, 3 sisters, Delores, Leona and Irene & 5 brothers, Arnold, Elmer, Leland, Wayne and Marvin.

He is survived by his wife Thelma, daughter Cherie Dieken and fiancé Bo McShan of Gibbon, 4 granddaughters Tess Trew (Harold) of Anselmo, Teran Schellhorn of Fairbury, Eve Dieken of Minden and Rebecca McShan of Gibbon, 3 grandsons Owen, Keegan, and Treigh McShan, 1 great-granddaughter, Sieanna of Anselmo, 5 great-grandsons Weston, Tregun, Zaydn Trew of Anselmo, and Raedyn & Kaidyn Schellhorn of Fairbury, 1 sister-in-law Lorraine Schellhorn of Denver and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury with Pastor Glen Emery officiating. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
