Richard C. Schmidt
Entered into "Unending Joy in the Lord" on December 18, 2022 at the age of 93 years. Beloved husband of Marcy (nee Haugen). Dear father of Holly (Paul) Doerr and Colleen (Randy) Mueller. Grandfather of Joy (Matthew) Tschudy, Justin (Kara) Doerr, Beth (Melvin) Turner, Christy (Tom) Klawiter, Jeff (Bernadette) Mueller, Lisa (the late Kris) Bosio, and 14 great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law Judy Haugen, nieces, nephews, and many other friends. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Dick Henne, and brother-in-law, Donald Haugen.
Dick was born on July 15, 1929 to Clarence and Hedwig Schmidt, baptized into Christ at Zion Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, WI. He learned the value of a good work ethic while observing and assisting his parents in their business, Schmidt's Food Shop, during his high school years. Dick proudly served his country in the Korean War. He always honored all who served the US in Military Service and helped found a program in his church to Honor Veterans. He experienced great fulfillment in his high school and post high school years playing his saxophone in a 50's Jazz Band. He had a love for music in his life and was a member of the church choir.
In October of 1955, Dick and Marcy were married at St. John's Lutheran Church, Glendale and became active members. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary!! God blessed them with two daughters. Without a doubt, he liked being a Dad as much as his girls loved being his daughters! In 1980, after 23 years at Blue Cross, Dick was offered the privilege of starting a Development Department at Concordia University Wisconsin. He accepted the offer and there are no words to describe how blessed he felt as challenges were met and new programs were offered at CUW. As family and friends we marvel at the gentle, unwavering love Dick had for each of us. As the years progressed and Dick's health waned, he still cared deeply for his family and friends and many special needs were taken to the Lord in prayer. The forgiveness of God upon himself was his greatest treasure. He truly longed for others to have that treasure within themselves whether they lived in our neighborhood or in foreign lands. Dick now lives in the joy of His Maker.
Visitation, Thursday, December 29, 2022 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 7877 N. Port Washington Rd, Glendale, WI. From 10:00 AM until the time of Service at 12 Noon. Interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Memorials to the Church, CUW, or Lutheran Bible Translators appreciated.

Dick was much help as I became Director of the Concordia Center for Bioethics (Institute) in 2003. He was indeed a blessing to me and the Center!
