Richard "Rick" Schmitz, of Midland Park, NJ, passed away Thursday September 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He was born in Englewood, NJ, grew up in Northvale, spent his teenage years in Ridgewood, and made his home in Midland Park, where he lived for his whole adult life.

Rick was known as a tough guy with a loyal heart and a generous spirit. He was the kind of friend you could always count on-steady, dependable, and fiercely devoted to those he loved. Family and friendship were at the center of his life, and he especially cherished time spent with his nephews and his brother in upstate New York.

An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Rick found joy in long rides with family and friends, restoring bikes, and working with his hands in the garage. He also had a passion for restoring antique furniture and could often be found tinkering away on new projects. Music was another love of his-whether in the garage, driving, or at home, Rick always had music playing, filling every space he was in. Rick was an encyclopedia of knowledge-if you needed something, you could always call him. And if he didn't have the answer, you could be sure he would find it.

Rick's love extended beyond people to animals and the outdoors. He had a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife, finding peace and happiness in the simple beauty of the world around him. He especially loved vacationing in places where he could be surrounded by nature, including New York State, New Hampshire, and Maine-where his family roots run deep.

Rick was a loving husband to Cindy King and a devoted father to Mandy Schmitz. He was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Mary Schmitz, his brother Dave, and his in-laws, June and John King.

He leaves behind his wife Cindy, daughter Mandy, brother Ron Schmitz, sisters-in-law Pam and Colleen King, his loving aunt Beverly Gordon, and many beloved nieces and nephews: Jimmy, Brian, and Danny Schmitz; Adam Kunis and family, Joshua and Nicholas Sierra, Samantha, Matt and Everette Frederick, as well as many other loving family members. His memory will live on in the countless lives he touched and, in the stories, laughter, and love he shared.

Rick will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, and the way he made those around him feel cared for and supported. His spirit will ride on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
