Mr. Richard “Randy” Day Scott, age 93 of Ararat, Virginia passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center in Mount Airy. Mr. Scott was born on April 18, 1932, in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Carlie Reece and Mamie Weddle Scott. Randy was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He was a member of Willow Hill Moravian Church where he worked in the church on various activities. Additionally, he drove a school bus for Patrick County Schools for 50 years and he worked as a part-time disk jockey at WSYD radio station in Mount Airy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving is his wife of 69 years, Phyllis Boyd Scott; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Scott Wells and John, Kim Scott Easter and DeWayne; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Scott was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Scott Pike; three aunts, Marie Scott Rodriguez, Ina Scott McMillian, Elsie Scott Montgomery, his maternal grandparents, R.L. and Caroline Thomas Weddle; and his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Ethel Allen Scott. A private graveside service will be held at Willow Hill Moravian Church Cemetery in Ararat, Virginia with Reverend Jack Anderson officiating. No formal visitation will be held at this time. The family respectfully requests no food to be given to them during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Willow Hill Moravian Church Cemetery Fund, 595 Willow Hill Road, Ararat, Virginia 24053. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care provided to Mr. Scott. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
