Mr. Luther Clayton “Mousie” McMillian, 86 of Ararat, VA, passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday evening July 19, 2025. He was born October 7, 1938, in Carroll County to the late Samuel Cassell McMillian and Laura Elizabeth Dawson McMillian. He owned and operated an orchard in Ararat for many years where he went above and beyond for his friends (customers) and had also worked at Ararat Rock. He was also a member and Deacon at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Mousie loved to play his guitar and loved music in general. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Darlene Guynn McMillian; daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Frankie Vernon; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Robin McMillian, Travis and Megan Bowman, and Jody and Melinda Bowman; 14 grandchildren, Hannah Ardner, Rebakah and Bradley Hicks, Abigail and Neil Tickle, Alexander McMillian, Gregory McMillian, Nathaniel McMillian, Logan Brown, Laurel Bowman, Lola Bowman, Liza Bowman, Walker Bowman, Reid and Amanda Vernon, Garrett and Rachel Vernon, and Jessica and Tyler Pennington; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Opal McMillian Thomas; brother, Ross McMillian; and several other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. McMillian was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Fannon McMillian; a great-grandson, Jasper Owen Hicks; three sisters, Eulala Dawson, Estelle McMillian, and Mabel Utt; and four brothers, Dwight McMillian, Clinton Sealel McMillian, Earl Eden McMillian, and Glenn McMillian. Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 23, 2025, at 2:00pm at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Isreal Gwyn and Pastor Andrew Willard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening July 22, 2025, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. The family would like to thank his wife Darlene and her sister Garlene for all of the care given to him during his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 97 Oak Grove Trail, Cana, VA 24317. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
