Richard Paul Shaia, 78, of Dade City, Florida, passed away on September 6, 2025, in Dade City.

Born on October 22, 1946, in Torrington, Connecticut, he was the son of Joseph John Shaia and Clara (Murelli) Shaia. Richard married the love of his life, Joan Shaia, on March 1, 1969, in Nashua, New Hampshire, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter until her passing on September 21, 2022.

Richard graduated from Torrington High School. After his retirement, he and Joan moved to Dade City, Florida, from Torrington, where they enjoyed the warmth of the sunshine.

He loved playing ping pong, poker, bingo, and cards with family and friends.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Melissa Shaia; grandchildren, Jonathan Foster and Sarah Foster; his brother, Joseph Shaia (Grace); sister, Lois Seymour (Larry); and friends, Ray and MaryAnn Tuday. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Shaia, and daughter, Wendy Zdancewicz, who passed away on November 4, 2023. His son in law Edward Zdancewicz (Elizabeth) has remained in in his life until his passing.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m at Hodges Family Funeral Home, Dade City, Florida.
