A Richard Shaver, age 89, of Gulfport passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 after a short illness. Richard was born in Philadelphia Pa on October 12, 1934. Richard retired from the Air Force in August of 1972 after serving for 20 years active duty. He was an air traffic controller and retired from the rank of master sergeant, serving in both the Korean War and Vietnam War.
After retiring he settled with his wife and three children on the Mississippi gulf coast in his wife’s hometown of Gulfport. Shortly after retiring he bought and operated Tastey Kreem on 25th avenue in Gulfport for 12 years and operated many other small business ventures. After selling the business he worked at USM Gulf Park campus in security and food service.
Richard and his wife, Liz spent 20 years in Indiana where he spent time with family and helped nurture his grandson, Nick. He returned to the gulf coast 3 years ago where he loved family time and spending days with his wife of 65 years.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Mary Shaver; his sister, Betty Victor; and his grandson, Brandon Shaver.
Survivors include his loving wife, Liz Shaver; sister Anna Mae Mumma of Harrisburg Pa; 3 children, Becki Shaver, Lyle (Amy)Shaver, Diana (Mike) Johnson; 4 grandchildren Taylor (Braden) Stotler, Nick (Sabrina) Johnson, Owen Shaver and Abby Shaver; and 2 great grandchildren, Novalee and Gabe Shaver
Special thanks to the Pass Christian Health and Rehab center staff and caregivers for their support and excellent care. Also thank you to his niece Chris Howard for her love and support over the years.
Services will be held 11:00am April 9, 2024 at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 1726 15th Street, Gulfport, MS, friends my visit one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
