Richard J. Shoemaker, 73, of
Sullivan, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at his home in Sullivan. Richard was born on August 31, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Ben and Lillian (Hodge) Shoemaker in St. Louis, Missouri.
Richard grew up in a large family in St. Louis. He was a proud graduate of Normandy High School, class of 1969, embarked on a life journey that would see him embrace various roles with dedication and integrity. After moving with his family to Bourbon, he worked in different factory settings and served his community as a census taker. His career path eventually led him to AeroFil in Sullivan, where he spent 18 years contributing his skills and labor.
Known for his love of the outdoors, Richard found joy in tending to his yard and caring for animals, demonstrating a gentle spirit that wouldn't harm even the smallest creature in his home. His younger years were filled with the thrill of riding horses, cruising on motorcycles, and the pride of owning a red convertible. As time went on, Richard's interests evolved, but his love for the simple things in life remained constant. He was a man who took pleasure in watching "The Young and the Restless" alongside his beloved wife, Donna, and enjoyed the classic westerns of John Wayne, always appreciative of a good story of courage and adventure.
Richard's sense of style was unmistakable, often donning western wear that reflected his conscientious approach to his appearance. His marriage to Donna Williams on December 31, 2007, brought new adventures into his life, as the couple delighted in traveling to Branson and exploring various sights together.
A devoted Seventh Day Adventist, Richard lived his faith through his actions and the love he shared with those around him. His grandsons, Jaxon, Grayson, Colton, and Ethan Echavez, knew him as PawPaw Richard. He cherished the time spent with them, engaging in one-on-one projects that not only created lasting memories but also imparted valuable life lessons.
Richard is survived by his wife, Donna Shoemaker of Sullivan; his two step-children; Charles Bridgeman and Courtney Echavez and husband, Christopher of Sullivan; four grandsons; Jaxon, Grayson, Colton, and Ethan Echavez all of Sullivan; a sister, Trish Sowash of Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lillian Shoemaker; 5 brothers; Stanley, Russell, Ben, Lonnie and Lester Shoemaker and one sister Doris Williams.
