It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard John Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Richard passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, at the age of 76.
Richard was born on Thursday, February 9th, 1950, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late John Miller Smith and Eleanor Smith Turner. He spent his formative years in Atlanta, where he developed a lifelong passion for cars and sports, particularly NASCAR, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Georgia Bulldogs.
Richard dedicated many years of his life working as a stocker at Joe's Bottle Shop, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly demeanor. His colleagues and customers alike will remember him for his warm smile and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Smith, who stood by his side for 50 wonderful years. He leaves behind a loving family, including his children, Travis Richard Smith and his wife Amanda, and Tracy Lynn Kinsey and her husband Melvin. Richard was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Miller Smith and Eleanor Smith Turner.
A visitation to honor Richard's life will be held at Roy Davis Funeral Home in Austell, GA, on Sunday, March 8th, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share memories of a man who touched so many lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Richard's memory and can be mailed to: 2300 Veterans Memorial Highway, Lot 123, Austell, Georgia, 30168.
Richard's legacy of kindness, love for his family, and passion for life will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
