Mark Richard Speranza, known affectionately as Richard to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, in
Durham, North Carolina, at the age of 57. Born on July 23, 1968, in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Richard was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him. His warm presence and generous spirit will be deeply missed.
Richard's life was one marked by devotion to his family, passion for his work, and a love for sports and fitness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Melissa Speranza, and their two children, Robyn and Benjamin, who were the center of his world. Richard was a loving son to his parents, Barbara and Michael Blaisdell, and a supportive brother to David Speranza. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Beatrice and Louis Kreizman, Shirley and Gregory Blaisdell; and aunt, Elaine Kreizman.
A proud graduate of Enloe High School in 1986 and East Carolina University in 1990, Richard's enthusiasm for learning and growth was evident in his academic achievements. His career was a testament to his hard work and dedication, having made significant contributions to the film industry from 1990 to 2001. Richard's professional journey continued at VisionAir from 2001 to 2010, and he later became an esteemed IT Senior Manager, Technical Support with EMC which was acquired by Dell Technologies in 2016, where he worked until 2026.
Richard's interests were diverse and reflected his vibrant personality. He was a State and High School Wrestling Champion, a testament to his determination and athletic prowess. His passion for sports was unwavering, with a particular fondness for East Carolina University football and baseball, the NY Yankees, Carolina Hurricanes, Carolina Panthers, and Philadelphia Eagles. Richard also had a love for movies and television, which he enjoyed in his leisure time, and he maintained an active lifestyle by working out at the gym regularly.
Those who knew Richard will remember him as a loving, kind, and passionate man. He approached life with a sense of purpose and a heart full of love for those around him. Richard's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to his family and friends.
Though Richard has left this world, his memory will continue to inspire and guide us. His laughter, wisdom, and the countless memories he created will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we say goodbye to Richard, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, joy, and the many lives he touched.
