Adelaide Speranza

Adelaide Speranza, born October 29, 1948, in New York City to Joseph and Adelaide Marks, passed away December 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and creativity.

For 35 years, Adelaide dedicated her life to teaching Spanish at the Newburgh School District, inspiring generations of students with her love of language and culture. Beyond the classroom, she was an avid traveler, embracing the world with curiosity and joy.

Her hands were rarely still-whether quilting, sewing, crocheting, or cooking, Adelaide poured her heart into every stitch and recipe. She found beauty in the everyday, delighting in art fairs, garage sales, and thrifting adventures, always uncovering treasures and stories along the way. A gardener at heart, she nurtured life both in her garden and in the friendships she cultivated.

Known for her infectious laugh and vibrant spirit, Adelaide was a true social butterfly who brought people together with ease. Her presence filled rooms with joy, and her humor left lasting memories for all who knew her.

Adelaide is survived by her beloved sister, Elizabeth Marks Suarez, and her cherished nephews, Rocky Suarez and Christopher Suarez. Her family, friends, students, and community will remember her as a woman of boundless energy, creativity, and compassion.

Her life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and artistry-one that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
