Rose M. Speranza (Vasconcellos), age 91, a long-time resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital.

Rose was born on November 10, 1933, in Cambridge, MA; she was the dear daughter of the late Manuel and Margaret (Sacco) Vasconcellos. Rose was raised and educated in Cambridge, MA, and was part of a large Portuguese community of extended family and friends.

Rose met her husband Salvatore while both were working at a local Cambridge restaurant; the couple married and moved to Melrose, MA, where she raised her family. Rose was very devoted to her children; her family was everything to her. She was an amazing cook and baker and always had a house full of people around her dinner table.

Rose will be remembered as a strong and independent lady who cared deeply for her family and friends.

Rose was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore Speranza, mother of Dana James Speranza and his wife Peggy Speranza, of Wilmington and the late Diane Rose Cormier and her husband Cameron Cormier of New Hampshire, "Nana" of Alicia Speranza and Angel Speranza. Rose is survived by her sister Beatrice Miller of Tulsa, OK, and is pre-deceased by her siblings Joseph, Millie, Rita, and Kay. She also leaves many loving friends.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Thursday, September 11th from 9:30-10:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, MA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Rose's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
