Richard Sugg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, LLC - Beacon on Dec. 16, 2025.
Richard F. Sugg, a lifelong resident of Beacon, passed away on December 12, 2025 at the Hudson Valley Hospice House. He was 87 years old.

Born on February 22, 1938 in Beacon, Richard was the son of the late Norris and Frances Kochay Sugg. He was a graduate of Beacon High School. On June 23, 1974 he married the former Roberta Perlini Lahey who predeceased him on August 7, 2017. He retired from IBM in Poughkeepsie where he worked as a Tool Designer and Machinist.

Richard was exceptionally handy and could fix nearly anything, often beginning with a carefully drawn sketch of how to do so. In the 1960s, he proudly built his home in Beacon, a testament to his skill and dedication. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and enjoyed tinkering and working on cars. Above all, Richard cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, which brought him great joy.

He is survived by his step-son, Greg Lahey and his wife, Carol; his grandchildren, Alyssa Perlman and her husband, Erich, Brett Lahey and his fiancée, Jessica and Julia Lahey; his great grandson, Luca Perlman; his brothers, Norris Sugg and his wife, Linda, Andy Sugg and his wife, Vanessa and Michael Sugg and his wife, Liz; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was predeceased by his brother, Robert Sugg.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, December 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow in the family plot at St. Joachim Cemetery, Beacon.
