Richard D. Thompson, 77, of Kansas City, MO passed away March 3, 2024. Funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64133. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00am. Burial will be at Brooking Cemetery, Raytown, MO.
Richard worked as a truck driver most of his life. Working for City Cargo and drove for Smith Brothers Ready Mix for a few years until 1975. He bought Cracraft Truck Service from his Uncle Bob and ran it until he retired in December of 2003.
He was a member of the Teamsters Local 41 until he retired. The President of JayHawk Pony Pulling Club for a time and a founding member of the Midwest Pony Pulling Club. He also was a member of the Missouri Foxtrotting Horse Breed Association for many years.
He had a few hobbies from riding motorcycles, boating with his family, dune buggies that he drove up hills mountain goats might question, but his main love was horses. He rode horses all his life his pride and joy was his Stud, Continental Blue Dandy. His other love was Pony Pulling that he got from his father and passed on to his Son and grandsons. Once he wasn't able to drive them any longer he would have Robert, Seth and Jacob drive them. It was part of his life line.
He was preceded in death by: mother and father, Mamie and J W Thompson; and brother, Jerry Thompson.
Survivors include: wife of 53 years, Nona Thompson; three children, Shane Thompson, Robbie (Stacy) Thompson; and Cherylle Stock; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons; and sister, Joyce Elam.
