Richard Tobin Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 6, 2025.
Richard J. Tobin of Marion, MA passed away on August 31, 2025, just two months shy of his 84th birthday.

Born on October 31, 1941, to Georgianna C. Lewis and John J. Tobin, and known to those close to him as Dick or Richie, Richard grew up in the Mary J. McCormick housing projects of South Boston and moved to Easton, MA, with his first wife, Nancy Deeley, where they raised three children, Laura, Patricia, and Richard Jr. (Rick).

Dick was a proud graduate of Boston College with a degree in Accounting. He commuted from "Southie" each day by thumbing across town to Chestnut Hill through Franklin Park. He later attained his masters in taxation from Bentley College. Early on, Dick worked for Di Pesa & Sons, an accounting firm in Boston. He later established his own accounting firm in Taunton, MA, and enjoyed an extensive network of professional friends across Southeastern Mass.

Dick is remembered by family, friends and colleagues as a captivating raconteur, with a quick wit and sharp memory which led his family to rename "Factoids" to "Dicktoids". He told stories of being a young boy selling The Boston Daily Globe at Downtown Crossing with a cigarette hanging out the side of his mouth, or of his grandfather, who at age thirteen, went missing in a fishing dory for several days off Georges Bank. The stories entertained all and especially his grandchildren who adored their grandfather.

Remembered as a caring mentor with a "can-do" attitude – to Richard, anything was possible. He frequently helped people new to our country establish themselves as citizens and helped clients and friends with business advice and career development. He was a true connector of people.

In his adult life, Richard became an avid sailor, skier, golfer, tennis and racquetball player. His sailing adventures led to trips from Bermuda to Newport, and up to the Gulf of Maine with his young children. One of his favorite stories was of a UFO sighting while sailing off the outer Cape.

Richard's legacy is one of love, loyalty, vitality and a life well-lived. He will be profoundly missed, as he is survived by his wife, Donna Cordeiro; his sister Kathleen Sawler; his children Laura, Patricia and Rick; and his grandchildren Sam, Toby, Nevin, Brienna, Jack and Max. Richard was predeceased by his brother Jack Tobin.

The family plans a Memorial Service for Saturday, October 25, 2025 with details to be shared in the near future.
