Richard Travis, Sr Obituary
Richard Wesley Travis Sr, (Rick) 72 was called home to be with his lord and savior on 8/8/24. Rick had been sick for a few weeks in steady decline after learning a mass was found in his lung. Cancer would later be found as the cause after his short battle came to an end during a standard outpatient procedure. With his loving family by his side, Rick made his journey home up the stairway to heaven where his eternal life awaited.
Rick is proceeded in death by his mother, Dorothy Mae Nash Travis, and his father, Raymond DeVenoge Travis.
He was born in Miami, FL, where he lived for a short period during his childhood with his mother, father, brothers Ray, and David Travis. They moved to the mountains of Asheville NC where he graduated from TC Roberson High School in 1970. He attended Montreat College for 2 years, then went on to graduate with a bachelor degree from Newberry College. He came back to Asheville, where he worked at Steelcase for 28 years. During that time, he would marry his wife Diane and have 3 sons Richard, Brian, and Michael. He would also go on to work at O'Reilly Auto Parts after retiring from Steelcase.
Rick had a profound love and talent for playing guitar and was in many bands throughout the years. He was blessed to start a band with his brothers, "Emporium". They played at many events and venues like Bele Chere, Elaine's at The Grove Park Inn, The Biltmore Estate, Cherokee's Harrahs Casino - just to name a few. Along with other country clubs and weddings, they kept crowds dancing for 44 amazing years!
Rick was one of a kind, truly an amazing father, brother, and friend. He was always known for his kind and calm demeanor. His influences will have a lasting impression upon the people so lucky to have known and loved him. We will all feel his absence, but he will certainly never be forgotten. His guitar pickin, and laugh will play on in all of our memories of Rick. Rest easy knowing he is now in heaven with a clean bill of health, playing his guitar and watching over all his loved ones.
Rick Travis is survived by his three sons, Richard (Stacy) of Gastonia, Brian of Arden, and Michael Travis of Candler. Grandchildren Nathan, Jenna, Westin, and MiKayla. Also his two brothers Raymond (Sandra) of Bent Creek, and David (Glenda) Travis of Arden. As well as his dear friend and former wife, Diane Davis of Candler.
A service will be held at The Lutheran Church of The Nativity. 2425 Hendersonville Rd Arden, NC 28704. At 1:00pm 8/24/24. All are welcome, and a gathering will follow.

I was fortunate enough to play in a garage band with Rick and some other friends many Saturday nights. He was an incredible musician and an even better person. I miss him as so many people do. Rest in peace buddy , RC

Rick was a fantastic friend in the 70's and on. I had the pleasure of playing bass in a band called Southern Fried that Rick was part of as well. Absolutely one of the best bands I've ever played in! Rick's smooth and in the pocket guitar playing is what pulled it all together! I sold him the gold Les Paul he still used in Emporium. Karen and I are so sorry to hear of his passing. We have been praying for all you family. I know he is and will be terribly missed.
