Barrington, NH – Richard Thomas Weed, Sr., 74, passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Richard was born on May 11, 1951, in Lowell, MA, he was the son of John Edward Weed and Alyce Georgette Munsell Weed.
Richard lived a life defined by service, devotion, and heart. He proudly served his country for 21 years in the United States Air Force, retiring with the distinguished rank of Senior Master Sergeant and earning numerous honors and certificates that reflected his discipline, perseverance, and commitment. A lifelong learner, Richard's thirst for knowledge never waned; he earned his bachelor's degree in business management and Logistics and seized every opportunity throughout his life to further his education, always striving to grow and improve.
Richard's commitment to service extended far beyond his military career. A proud and dedicated member of both the VFW and the American Legion, he devoted his time to supporting veterans and community initiatives. He also contributed to the Jaycees, supported Project Head Start, and championed Donate Life.
A natural mentor and coach, Richard spent countless hours on the Air Force football, baseball, and basketball teams, sharing his knowledge and passion with younger players. His love of sports began in high school, where he was a standout athlete and fondly remembered his days as a track star. Whether on the field, volunteering, tending his garden, or crafting wood into beautiful creations, Richard found joy in giving of himself and rolling up his sleeves to make a difference in the lives of others.
Above all, Richard was a devoted family man. For 53 years, he was the loving husband of Dorothy Francis Weed (Nye), and together they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unwavering faith. They raised three children, Richard Thomas Weed Jr., Dawn Cook-Mellencamp and her husband William, and Heather Weed, instilling in them values of kindness, integrity, perseverance, humility, generosity, and an enduring love of family.
Richard's greatest joy came from being a grandfather. To Mikaela Boyer, Taylor Glass, Aiden Mellencamp, Zachary Cook, Jamison Boyer, Kaylie Weed, and Oscar Mellencamp, he was more than a grandfather, he was a steadfast supporter, a constant encourager, and a source of endless love and laughter. He called daily to hear about their days, celebrated every milestone, and made each of them feel uniquely cherished. From sporting events to school performances, holiday traditions, and everyday conversations, he was wholeheartedly present, sharing in their laughter, lifting their spirits, and offering gentle wisdom that will echo in their hearts forever. His love for them knew no limits, and the legacy of his devotion will remain a treasure they carry always...
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as his brother, Don Weed; his sisters-in-law, Irene Weed and Janice Weed; and numerous nieces and nephews, who will carry forward his memory."
He was predeceased by his brother, Jack Weed, and his parents, Alyce and John Weed.
Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, service, faith, and devotion. His dedication to family, community, and country touched countless lives, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
