Mr. Richard Peter Thomas Joseph Wegner, 82, passed away peacefully Monday, December 25, 2023.
He was born April 28, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of William and Josephine (Kurowski) Wegner.
He is survived by his son, Richard (and Tania) Wegner; his daughter, Tyler (and Matthew) Schoch; sister in law, Nancy; dear friend, Sheri Wood; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Katherine and Zoey. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Thomas Wegner and sister, Carol Frank.
Richard was an independent contractor. He was a member of the American Motorcycle Racing Association.
Richard was known by many things: a father, a brother, a friend, but most remember him as that really tall guy that made his presence known. That's Big Rich. He has done many things for this country, and for his community to try and make a difference and make life better. Anyone who knew Rich knew that he was larger than life with so many ideas he wanted to express and implement, and knowledge he wanted to share
In his 82 years on earth, Richard brought a lot into this world: wisdom, guidance, laughter and love, and would like to be remembered as such.
There will be no public visitation or services. The family encourages you to remember Rich in your favorite form, and honor his memory by doing something good for the community, or this earth. Some may walk through the pearly gates, but some will ride. Ride on Big Rich. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.h-p-w.com
