Richard "Dick" Dean Werner, son of Kenneth E. and Allene (Carter) Werner, was born on October 20, 1934, in Albion, NE. He was baptized at St. Edward Presbyterian Church and grew up in St. Edward, graduating with the St. Edward High School Class of 1952. He went on to attend the University of Nebraska for one year before beginning his life's journey in work, service, and family.
On February 12, 1956, Dick was united in marriage to Gayle Marilyn Collins at the St. Edward United Methodist Church. Together they were blessed with three children and made their home in several communities. Norfolk, NE; Sheldon, IA; Belle Plaine, IA; Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; and eventually returned to St. Edward, where their roots ran deep.
Dick began his career as a hog buyer for Armour & Co. before being called to military service, where he served proudly as a company clerk from 1957 to 1959. After completing his service, he returned to St. Edward to join the family business Werner Trucking, alongside his father, Kenneth, and grandfather, Ed Werner.
A lifelong member of both the Presbyterian and Methodist churches in St. Edward, Dick lived his faith through service and community involvement. He was a member of the Nebraska Motor Carriers, served in leadership roles within the St. Edward Methodist Church, and spent 17 years as a board member of First National Bank & Trust. He was also active in many facets of the St. Edward community, always willing to lend his time and talents where they were needed.
Dick cherished life's simple joys: fishing, family trips to Colorado and Branson, enjoying a good steak, attending social gatherings, and sharing countless games of cards with family and friends.
