Richard Lee Wigger, age 71, of Mustang, passed away on September 14, 2024. He was born on August 5, 1953, at Camp Lejeune, NC, to Richard Arthur and Mamie Lee Gladys (Akers) Wigger. The family soon moved to Bonne Terre, MO, and Richard later graduated from Potosi High School. He graduated from Truman State University, then NW Missouri State University.
After working for a year in security, Richard accepted a job as an assembler at the St. Louis plant of General Motors in 1978. When the plant closed, he transferred to OKC, where he remained until his retirement in 2007.
Richard met Joan Ellen Mahoney in their college speech class (later a librarian for Moore Public Schools) while at NW Missouri State. They married in their senior year of college Dec. 28, 1974, and welcomed their son, Eric, a few weeks early on their fourth wedding anniversary.
Richard was a skilled woodworker and woodturner, specializing in pens and bowls. He was a devoted bowler, bowling in weekly leagues for decades. Richard was also a coin collector and avid storyteller; he truly had a story for everything and a smile for everyone he met.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan; son Eric and wife Leslie; sisters Jennifer Lawson and Roxie Wigger; and other extended family.
A private memorial service is being planned for a later date.
