Richard Wilson Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Richard Paul Wilson, age 61, who left us peacefully on August 4th, 2025.

Richard was born in Detroit on March 23rd, 1964, to the late Gale Wilson and Beverly Wilson. He lived a life filled with passion, pride, and a crazy sense of humor.

A true son of Michigan, he was a life-long fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Detroit Lions – cheering faithfully through every thrilling win and every heartbreaking loss. Fall Saturdays weren't complete without maize and blue, and Sundays were reserved for blue and silver.

But above all else, Richard loved his family with unwavering devotion. He was the beloved husband of Suzanne (LaPoint) Wilson of 33 years. Together, they built a life centered on love, laughter, and loyalty. He was a proud father to Ryan (Elizabeth), Justin, Jeremy, and Ashley (David), and an adoring grandpa to Laci, Makenzie, Haven, TJ, Ilyona, Lillian, Kaiden, and Finnegan. Each of whom brought him endless joy and pride. He is survived by his brother, Michael Wilson (Cheryl) and niece, Desiree.

Richard also had another love that never faded for his 1970 Plymouth Road Runner. With its powerful roar and classic lines, it was more than a car – it was a symbol of his spirit: bold, vibrant, and unique.

Whether he was sharing stories in the garage, watching the big game with family, or taking the Road Runner out for a cruise, Richard lived every moment with heart.

He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, grit, humor, and love – and a family who will carry his memory in every tailgate, every engine rev, and every chorus of "Hail to the victors."

Visitation will be held on August 9th, between 1-8 p.m. with a service at 5 p.m. at Heritage Funeral home located at 15748 Fort St., Southgate, MI 48195. In honor of Richard, the family invites attendees to wear their favorite Michigan or Lions gear – because he wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Rest easy, Richard. We'll take it from here. Go Blue and One Pride forever.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund or the National Kidney Foundation.
