Richard Wayne Woltz, 82, a resident of Virginia Beach for many years died on November 1 after an extended illness.
He was a loving son, brother and husband who made friends that remained close for a lifetime. Though he chose a career in physics and engineering, he was a natural born leader and teacher. People gravitated toward him because he was funny, supportive and loyal. He loved learning and always looked for deeper insights into anything he set his mind to. He will be missed.
Richard graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1970 where he attained the rank of LTJG as a naval engineer. Following his discharge, Richard worked for several government contractors and retired as a senior systems engineer for Northrop-Grumman.
He is survived by his sister, Dixie Trollinger (John), a niece, Carrie Milhous of Tallahassee, Florida and a nephew John Trollinger III, of Leesburg, Virginia along with numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Marlene, and his parents Wayne and Elizabeth Woltz.
Richard will be interred at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.
