Richard Wayne Wood, 84, of Ogden, Utah passed away at home, peacefully in his sleep on October 29, 2025, after a prolonged battle with dementia.
Richard was born on September 13, 1941, to Perry Wayne Wood and Helen Stocker Wood in Fullerton, CA. Richard graduated from Brea Olinda High School in 1959.
In December of 1963, he married Sharon Clark at Brea Congregational Church in Brea, CA. Richard and Sharon were married for 62 years and have three children, Steve, Allison and Chris.
In July of 1997, Richard retired as Commander from the Long Beach Police Department. The two spent their early retirement years traveling North America and abroad before settling on Orcas Island for 15+ years where they made many lifelong friends and dedicated their time to the Orcas Island Community Church. In 2014, they moved to Ogden Utah to be closer to their two grandkids, Jill & Joe, and to be more accessible for friends and family to visit.
Richard was predeceased by his father Perry Wayne, mother Helen Stocker and brother Jerry Wood. He is survived by his wife Sharon, sons Steve and Chris, daughter Allison and grandchildren Jill and Joe Wood.
Services are to be held November 6th, 2025, at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th St, Ogden, UT at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an organization close to your heart in fond remembrance of dad.
