Rick Britton, 64, passed away on November 1, 2025, leaving behind a family and friends who will cherish his straightforward nature and his knack for fixing cars late at night. He was born on June 19, 1961 in Indianapolis, to the late Earl Britton and Margaret L. (Brodhacker) Roland.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, son, Holiday Inn chauffeur, vintage Cadillac restorer, lawn care enthusiast, and Boy Scout leader. Yet, he always made time to enjoy life. Whether it was playing frisbee on South Beach or hanging out with his adopted family of friends and neighbors.
His health was a challenge for those around him, but he never let it define him. After being struck by a car while on his motorcycle as a young man, Diana watched patiently as he emerged from a coma and defied the odds to live a full life. In his later years, his health once again became a focal point as he faced dialysis and cardiac challenges. The health of his family members, especially his mother in her final days, weighed heavily on him, but he always made sure to be by her side, reassuring her of the way through. Always grateful for the care of his many physicians, nurses, and providers-who learned to appreciate his personality-he knew their outstanding care allowed him to spend time in the home he loved with those around him who he cherished.
His example of overcoming health trials inspired his son and daughter to thrive in their own families and careers. He showered his grandchildren with love and a collection of tricycles and gently used toys. Rick could spot a good bargain, but he always asked for a better deal. He always negotiated fairly with equanimity and honor.
Rick was humble and always said he "won the lottery" with wonderful family, friends, and life. In fact, we will continue to be blessed with his lifetime gifts of devotion and unpretentious love in action until we join him, God willing, in that gnarly frisbee game in heaven.
Rick is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diana Dee Britton; his son, Roger (Morgan) Britton; his daughter, Katie (Jason) Maroska and five grandchildren Paxton, Reagan, Brynn, Maverick, and Stella. His siblings, Annie Wenzlaff, David (Allene) Riordan, Doody (Jen) VanArsdale.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025, at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate a life well lived from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Rick will be laid to rest at Salem Cemetery, Greenwood.
