Rick Allen Goebel
A man who could swing a sixteen-ounce hammer and drive a six-inch nail clean through a board yet guide you with a softness held beneath the calluses and scars, passed away peacefully in his home on October 13th, 2025, at the age of seventy-six. Or, as he would always say, "going on seventy-seven."
Rick grew up through hardships and challenges that shaped the man he became. A devoted husband, he knew the woman he loved from the moment he met her in 1963, at just fourteen years old and loved her so strongly that no distance ever kept him from her side.
He was a loving father, a proud carpenter, and a gifted storyteller who could fix anything with a little ingenuity and humor. Rick was a craftsman through and through, skilled at the trade he loved, who spent his life building homes and structures meant to stand the test of time.
Rick was a man whose life was full of stories and histories he would often share. Some stories so remarkable you would be hard pressed to believe them, but the crevices that ran through his skin and the sincerity in his eyes held to the fact that these stories were true: lived, real, and raw - the good and the bad alike.
He was a bright man, full of love and laughter, whose tough exterior was rivaled only by the kindness and generosity he carried within. Always the first to help and the last to leave, his laughter was infectious, his friendship easy, and his loyalty fierce.
Above all else, Rick was a man who cared deeply. Someone who loved his family with a devotion that can only be described as exceptional. He worked himself to the bone to provide for those he loved, showing up for every event, every game, every practice, volunteering whenever he was needed. He held himself to impossible standards yet always found a way to rise above them.
In recent years, his faith became the quiet cornerstone of his life. A devoted Christian, he found strength and peace in God's word and lived that faith through kindness, humility, and love. His belief was never loud or showy, but steady and ever growing. The kind of faith that spoke through how he treated others and the grace with which he met life's challenges. Those who knew him saw a man whose faith had deepened with time, guiding his heart and shaping every prayer, every act of love, and every moment of gratitude.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of fifty-seven years, Kathryn Goebel, whom he married in 1968, and their three children: Angela Murley (Robert Murley), Danielle Lee (Eric Lee), and Jefferey Goebel (Jennifer Goebel). He was a proud grandfather to Caitlin, Austin, Tristan (Angela), Amber, Madison, Damon, and Miranda, and a doting great-grandfather to Lillie - each of whom carry a piece of his humor, work ethic, and love. He also leaves behind a circle of friends and fellow craftsmen who will carry his lessons in every nail driven straight.
Rick's legacy will live on in the echoes of his laughter, in the patience and care behind every board set true, and in the love that still fills the home and family he built around him. A love that will linger even longer and stronger than the homes he built.
