Rick May, 54, of Ashville, Ohio, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, March 24, 2023, at O.S.U. Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.
Rick was born to John and Regina May on April 5, 1968 in Columbus, Ohio. He attended school at Hamilton Township, where he graduated in 1986. In school, Rick played every sport, while his dad coached him. Rick was an 80's dude through and through, from his leather trench coats to his feathered hairstyle. He married the love of his life, Dawn (Leffler) May, on August 20, 1994, and they had 28 wonderful years together.
In addition to his wife, Rick's legacy will live on in his son, Connor May. He is also survived by his mother, Regina (Ford) May, sister, Janette (May) and brother-in-law, David Dennison, his niece and nephew, Kristen and Adam Dennison, and in-laws, Marvin and Gail Leffler.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, John, and grandmother. Juanita "Nanny" Foster.
A lifelong love of music led Rick to learn every instrument, though he was known for being the best drummer ever. He was a part of Christian music history as a member of the Walter Eugenes, drummer for DC Talk, front of house audio engineer for MercyMe, and he also worked with, produced and influenced many young artists in his life.
He was very active in the church community in Chillicothe, Ohio. He served for many years at Open Door Ministries, and was attending Centerpoint Church. Rick will be remembered for his love of God, music, and family, he never met a stranger. Rick impacted the lives of so many, more than he likely realized, as evidenced by the hundreds of tributes left to him on social media. He was a role model, friend and father figure to so many, and Rick brought countless people to Jesus, and everywhere he went, he went in Jesus name, as his father always said.
Rick was a two time liver transplant recipient, and he fought hard to get better for those he loved. He never complained, never cried, and he kept his one of a kind sense of humor through it all. Rick will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. Heaven has gained a legend.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March, 28, 2023 and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Open Door Ministries.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Open Door Ministries, in Chillicothe, Ohio with Pastors Chris VanBuskirk and Mark Pfeifer officiating. The burial will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe, Ohio.
