Obituary of Rick Nelson
Rick Nelson, 70, of Richfield, MN died Friday, March 21st, 2025, after a long battle with Parkinson's and Leukemia.
Rick was born July 25th, 1954, to Dick and Rene Nelson in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in South Minneapolis attending Hiawatha, Sanford, and Vocational High School. He married his "forever" best friend and love, Tami Fecht. They were blessed to have two sons, Darren and Graham. Rick's family was everything to him. He enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball, as well as teaching his boys how to golf, ice skate, and ride a bike. He also enjoyed playing bocce ball, golf, pool, and softball. His favorite game to play was Yahtzee.
He was an avid fan of the MN Twins and MN Vikings. He loved listening to music, especially the Allman Brothers, and collected baseball cards since he was a child; a pastime that was passed down to his sons and grandsons. Rick was a wonderful friend. He always had a smile on his face and looked at life through a positive lens.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; sister Randee Nelson; brother Rory Nelson; and his beloved father and mother-in-law, Chuck and Peggy Fecht.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Tami; sons Darren (Taylor) Nelson, Graham (Kayla) Nelson; grandsons Noah and Owen Nelson; sister Risa (Jim) Sachs; sisters-in-law Beth (Roy) Fecht and Kim Fecht; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Rick's family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Kevin Kelly and his treatment team at M Health Fairview.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
"There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they are gone, the light remains."
