Rick Nelson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home on Mar. 2, 2026.
Rick Nelson of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the age of 68. Rick was inviting and easy-going with a young-at-heart quality. He lived a good life, and his wonderful personality and smile will be forever missed by his loved ones.

He was born on October 25, 1957, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to Dolly Madeline (Holbrook) Puckett and Rebel Nelson. Rick moved to the Warsaw area in 1972 and attended Warsaw Community High School. On September 28, 1999, Rick married Sherri Lynn Canary, and they were blessed to have shared the past 26 years together before he passed.

A dedicated employee, Rick spent 44 years working for R.R. Donnelley in Warsaw, retiring in 2020 as a bindery line operator, where his hard work was matched only by the lasting friendships he made with his co-workers. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who left a positive impact on everyone he met. Rick cherished time spent with his family, and he loved riding his motorcycle and hunting. He particularly enjoyed his many trips to his cabin in Kentucky.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sherri Lynn Nelson; two sons, Jason (Charity) Nelson, Tyler Fox; and his daughter, Jody Sisk (all of Warsaw, IN). Also surviving are his beloved eight grandchildren, Nathan, Alex, Jason, Stephanie, Josh, Clayton, Sirus and Linxi; as well as his brother, Randy Nelson and sister, Sandy (Roger) Rowland (both of Warsaw, IN). He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Nathan Nelson.

Rick's life will be celebrated with a service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Larry Oaks. Family and friends may visit prior to the service from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
