Alice Elizabeth "Krog" Nelson

Alice Elizabeth Krog Nelson, 98, of Girard, died at 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at her residence in Girard.

Alice was born April 28, 1927, in Girard, the youngest daughter of Ernest Andrew Krog and Mary Louise (Riedinger) Krog. She grew up on a farm in rural Girard, attending Salem Elementary School and graduating from Girard High School. She worked for the Crawford County Extension Office, Girard High School, and Farm Services prior to a long career in real estate and insurance.

Alice married Merlin "Jack" Nelson November 6, 1964, at the United Methodist Church in Girard. Following their marriage, she joined Jack at Nelson Insurance and Real Estate, where they worked together for many years.

She was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church in Girard and a proud 60 year member of the Grand Chapter OES of Kansas with her current membership held at the Olive Chapter #13 in Fort Scott. Throughout her six decades of membership, Alice held numerous offices, including Worthy Matron, Chaplain, and Associate Matron.

Alice and Jack shared a deep love for farming and raising cattle. They especially enjoyed their evening drives to check on the herd that they enjoyed. She also enjoyed Saturday shopping sprees with her sisters.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mary Krog; her brother, Raymond Krog; and her three sisters, Marie Krog, Ruby Krog, and Lena Thompson.

Survivors include her nephews, Leonard Krog of Girard and Dana Thompson (Michelle) of Kansas City, Missouri; and her nieces, Marsha Vance (Jerry Fischer) of Omaha, Nebraska; Lena Mays (Doug) of Topeka, Kansas; and Diane Gillespie (Kelly) of Jefferson City, Missouri.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 5, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Girard Cemetery with Chaplain Randy Beeman officiating. Friends may call after 2:00 pm Wednesday March 4, 2025 at the Smith Carson Wall Funeral Home in Girard.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of Girard and Wesley House and may be left at the service or the Smith Carson Wall Funeral Home, 518 W. St. John, Box 258, Girard, KS 66743.
