Rick R. Runyeon, 75, entered eternal rest on March 17, 2024, following a courageous battle with a chronic illness. He was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Clyde R. Runyeon and Elva M. Runyeon (Balthaser). He was also predeceased by a newborn brother, David.
Rick had a passion for many things. He spent countless hours refinishing and restoring antique furniture to the beautiful pieces they once were. He kept detailed logs throughout his restoration process, illustrating his work to get a particular piece to optimal condition. He also very much enjoyed researching the history of the piece. Rick's other pride and joy was his Wheel Horse tractor, which he meticulously maintained and ran like a champ for 43 years, often referring to it as his "buddy." He truly valued maintaining his equipment and every aspect of his home. The birds, squirrels, and raccoons that visited his "Rocky Top" property were never hungry. He adhered to his daily written schedule, dutifully crossing off completed tasks to track his progress. One of his famous sayings was, "write it down so you don't forget." Rick was also well-read and could speak intelligently about history and current events. He was a loving pet parent to Pusser and, most recently, Keiser, their 13-year-old Yorkie. He was one of those men who knew how to weave a story relaying a combination of truth and imagination. He will forever be remembered for his heartfelt speeches before family dinners, especially at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve. Among his many accomplishments was graduating with an Associate Degree in Business Arts from Ursinus College in 1979, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Administration from Alvernia College in 1986. Both degrees were completed at night while working full-time and caring for his family. His most notable employment history included a supervisory role for Baldwin Hardware, tow motor operator at Lentz Milling, and rural United States Postal Services carrier for Kempton, Pennsylvania from which he retired in 2010.
Surviving are his cherished wife of 56 years, Marcella J. Runyeon (Skoraszewski) of Mohrsville, son Stephen R. Runyeon (wife, April) of Myerstown, daughter Tammy L. Kondisko (Runyeon) (husband, James Kondisko, Jr.) of Bernville, and sister Louise E. Pennypacker (Runyeon) of Laureldale.
Rick will be cremated, and remembrance will be private at the convenience of the family.
