Rickey Lee Karns, 67, of Bedford, died on October 26, 2025, at UPMC Western Maryland Hospital after a 4-month battle with esophageal cancer. He was born March 26, 1958 in Bedford. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Frank Hornick and Gladys Karns Lute, as well as his older brother, Ronnie Lute.
He is survived by his wife Jacqueline; children, Andrew Karns (Ashley), Heather Redinger (Scott), Steven Karns (Courtney); and grandchildren, Lily, Jason, Alice, Hope, Jacob, Emma, and Hallieann.
Rick was a member of Bedford Valley Assembly of God Church and the American Legion. He retired from Kennametal in November of 2024 after a long work history since the age of 14.
Rick was known for his strong work ethic and his gifts of hospitality and help. He was a true helper. He was exceptionally kind, generous, and unselfish. He never met a stranger and never refused when asked to help. He was blessed with a beautiful, loving family and many close friends who held him dear. He fought a good fight and had complete trust in his Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be sorely missed.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial at Woods Church Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Friday one hour prior to the service.
