Ricky Rapp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Poland-Thompson Funeral Home on Sep. 10, 2024.
Ricky Roland Rapp: June 6, 1957 – September 8, 2024
Ricky Roland Rapp, 67, of Cameron, Missouri passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2024, after a short battle with terminal brain cancer.
Ricky was born on June 6, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri. Even though he was taken from us too soon, Ricky touched many lives and made a lasting impact on all who had the good fortune to know him. With his towering stature and warm, friendly demeanor, he had a presence that lit up any room. Ricky had an amazing sense of humor and wit that always kept you on your toes.
His greatest joy in life was his family and spending time with those who meant the most to him. As a loving husband, he cherished every moment spent with his wife, Wanda, who he met in high school in Grain Valley, Missouri. Ricky and Wanda were married on January 20, 1976, at New Liberty Baptist
Church in Oak Grove, Missouri and began building a wonderful life together for the past 48 years. They had two children, Jacob and Traci, and nothing brought him more joy than attending their various school and sporting events from high school through college, and then later in life attending the events of his four grandchildren. Beyond his roles as a husband and father, he enjoyed cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and Missouri Tigers, deer hunting, fishing, traveling, and an occasional round of golf.
In his earlier years, Ricky was a standout multi-sport high school athlete, excelling in football, basketball and track. He graduated from Grain Valley High School, Grain Valley, Missouri in 1975. Ricky spent 30 years with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. He began his career as a civilian dispatcher for 2 years, and the following 28 years as a member of the police force. Ricky also spent an additional 5 years with the Metropolitan Community College Police Department before finally retiring in 2016.
Ricky is survived by his wife Wanda, son Jacob (Amy); daughter Traci (Chris); grandchildren: Nolan and Molly Rapp, Andrew and Kailyn Funk; siblings: Ivan (Carol), Doug (Deb), and Don (Susan); father-in-law Spencer Coffey; brother-in-law Diamond Coffey (Christy); and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He has been preceded in death by mother-in-law Lois Coffey and brother-in-law Richard Coffey.
Funeral Services: There will be a graveside service on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 10:00 am. Evergreen Cemetery, 9654 E Evergreen St, Cameron, MO 64429. A Celebration of Life will take place following the service at The Rapp Family Home, 8856 W. State Route HH, Cameron, MO 64429
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to KU Endowment (PO Box 928 Lawrence, KS 66044) to benefit Brain Cancer Research at the KU Cancer Center. Rick was one of the best people I have ever known. I cannot even find the words to express how much he meant to me and my wife. I loved him just as if he were my brother. He and Wanda were very important in our life. God has just gotten a great man in his kingdom.

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Rick for a few years at Cosentinos Thriftway by the Blue Ridge Mall. He was so much fun and always made us laugh. When i would count money Rick would start counting out loud to mess me up and then laugh. He loved his family, that is something that I clearly remember.

In loving memory of a wonderful friend. Rick will always hold a special place in my heart and he will truly be missed. Rick was the kindest and most genuine person you'd ever want to meet. He loved Wanda and his family so very much and was so proud of his kids and grandkids.
