A memorial service for Riley Miles Gilbert, III, 61, will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Winner’s Circle Church, 8000 E. Texas St., Bossier City, Louisiana, at Louisiana Downs. Officiating the service will be Pastor Jimmy Sistrunk.

Miles was born on February 5, 1964, to Riley Miles Gilbert, Jr., and Dorothy Parish Gilbert in Washington, D.C., and passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Miles was known by many names: Monkey, Squirrel, Lemur, but above all, he was known for being a patient, easygoing, and simple man who brought calm and kindness wherever he went.

A horse trainer since before high school, Miles found his calling early and never strayed far from the barn, the track, or the saddle. He married the love of his life, Lisa, and together they built a life filled with laughter, love, and shared passions. One of his greatest joys was taking his daughter, Falyn, to rodeos and spending time with her in the world he loved most. Falyn wasn’t just part of that world; she was his world, the heart of his days, and the light in his life.

Miles had a deep love for horses and the people who cared for them. He transported countless horses for friends and clients, always showing up with a helping hand and a steady heart. He loved to travel. Hot Springs and Las Vegas were favorites, but nothing brought him more joy than spending time in Islesboro, Maine, with his brothers. That quiet coastal town held a special place in his heart, not just for the laughter and bond he shared with them, but also because it was where he visited his beloved mother. He found joy in cooking, camping, and simply being with his friends.

He didn’t like confrontation and never made things harder than they had to be. If you knew Miles, you knew someone who made life easier, better, and more peaceful just by being there.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his generous spirit, and the way he made everyone feel at home.

Miles was preceded in death by his father, Riley Miles Gilbert, Jr., and mother, Dorothy Parish Gilbert. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; daughter, Falyn; stepdaughters, Rachel and Hallie; step-grandchildren, Olivia, Claire, and Melanie; brothers, Baynard Gilbert and wife, Tobi, Alexander Gilbert and wife, Kate, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Winner’s Circle Church, 8000 E. Texas St., Bossier City, Louisiana, at Louisiana Downs, any horse rescue of your choice, any racetrack chaplaincy, or you can plant a tree in Miles' name.
