Rima Kašubaite Binder passed away on December 16, 2025, at Franciscan Village in Lemont, Illinois.
She was born on March 21, 1939, in Kaunas, Lithuania, to Antanus Kašuba and Angele Garbaraviciute Kašubiene. In the summer of 1944, Rima and her parents fled Lithuania, eventually arriving in the United States in October 1947. The family settled in Chicago in 1950, where Rima built her life and legacy.
In 1962, Rima married Walter J. Binder Jr. (1937–2025), her devoted husband and lifelong partner.
Rima dedicated her life to education and service. A proud member of the Long Beach, Indiana community, she gave generously of her time and leadership, serving as Board President of the Friendship Botanic Gardens, a board member of the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra, and Past President of the Illinois Association for Gifted Children.
She is survived by her loving family: her daughter, Kristina, and grandchildren Katherine Nader, Sarah Nader, Emily Nader, Jack Nader and Courtney Dolezil; her son, W. Anthony Binder, his wife Mary Spada, and their children Titas and Lukas Binder; her sister, Viktorija Kašubaite Matranga, her husband Mark Matranga, and their children-son Andrew Matranga, his wife Kelly Davidson, and their children Lochlan, Maible, and Conroy Matranga; son Peter Matranga and his daughter Maria Friend Matranga; and daughter, Regina Matranga. She is also survived by relatives in Lithuania.
The farewell will take place on Saturday, December 20, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis Mission in Lemont. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. for the repose of Rima's soul. Burial will follow at St. Casimir Cemetery.
She is mourned deeply by her grieving family.

I just learned about the passing of Rima and I am so sorry for her family's loss!! My husband and I own the hardware store in Long Beach, and I am Lithuanian...Rima and I had several conversations about Lithuania, being Lithuanian, and where my family came from...and the Gardens and St. Annes and the Lithuanian World center. She even helped me get something Lithuanian I had purchased online from someone by picking it up in Chicago for me and bringing it to me at the store!! She was a lovely lady and she will be missed!!

I had the honor of working with and for Rima as a teacher of the gifted in Barrington. She was also my instructor for a few classes while I was working toward my MA in gifted education. She was the driving force promoting all that was good and necessary for a strong gifted education program. She was also funny and deeply kind and thoughtful. She had a strong impact on me and my career and I was honored to know her. Rima was truly a very special person and I'm grateful for the role she played in my life. Georgia Nelson
