In Loving Memory of Risa Marie Asaro (Harvey)
July 20, 1951 - March 23, 2025
After a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer, Risa Marie Asaro, age 73, of
Marshfield, Massachusetts, passed peacefully at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, Massachusetts on the evening of March 23, 2025.
Born in Boston, MA, July 20, 1951, to the late John Leo Harvey and Marguerite (Peg) Dacerno, Risa spent her early childhood in St. Peter's Parish, Dorchester, Massachusetts.
In these early years Risa was always present at her Uncle Tom Gann's home with her Auntie Mae and her cousins Tommy and Mary, who treated her as one of their own. This close-knit family upbringing instilled in Risa the values of love and togetherness that she carried throughout her life.
At age six her family moved to Braintree, MA, where her sister Michele (68) was born. She continued to grow and shape her remarkable life, carrying forward their legacy of grace and kindness and touching countless lives with her warmth and compassion.
Risa attended Braintree public schools and was a 1969 graduate of Braintree High school where she played softball and field hockey. After graduation, Risa worked for the Telephone company in Boston until she enrolled in an X-ray Technology program at Northeastern University. She earned her degree and began working at Boston City Hospital.
Risa met Thomas Francis Lynch III (deceased,1999) of Houghs Neck. They married, lived briefly in Wollaston, MA, moved to Weymouth and raised their three children. In 1981, Risa began a long career in mammography and women's diagnostics at South Shore Hospital that included starting a Breast Cancer Support Group.
After her divorce in 1996, a card sent to congratulate the parents of an old high school friend led to a renewed relationship with Lawrence "Larry" Asaro. They rekindled their romance and married in 2000. Highlighted by travel and family outings, their partnership spanned over 25 years, marked by deep mutual love and respect. In 2020, they moved to
Marshfield, MA.
An active person, Risa filled every minute with vibrant motion. She loved to hike, ski, swim and golf. She ran charity 5K's and walked with her dear friend Betty every morning before work for over 20 years.
Risa was an avid reader and if she sat, she either read, quilted or knit. She has left a memorable trail of sweaters and quilts among the friends and family she loved.
In addition to her husband Larry (77), Risa is survived by three wonderful children: Cara Beckett (50) and her spouse Emanuel (Jay) of Hingham, MA, Thomas Francis (TJ) Lynch IV (47) of Worcester, MA, and Matthew John Lynch (45) and his spouse Caitlin of Springfield, VA.
Risa cherished her role as "Grammy" and leaves behind her six grandchildren: Brianna Imani, Kaiya Nicole, and Natalia Belle, Smith; Hudson Leo, Evaline Rose, and Cooper Jeffrey, Lynch, who brought additional joy and love into her life.
Risa also leaves her sister Michele Sarah Harvey (68), her true love. Their bond was a testament to a lifetime of unwavering support and companionship.
Risa lived for the Lord and her family. Her faith and devotion were the guiding lights of her life, and she drew immense strength from her spiritual beliefs, imparting these values to her loved ones. Risa's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her selfless nature, enduring strength, and profound love for her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, May 6, at South Shore Baptist Church in Hingham, MA, followed by a reception at South Shore Country Club also in Hingham, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the "Henry and Belinda Termeer Center for Targeted Therapies" in honor of Risa's brave fight against cancer and recognition for their high level of compassionate care.
