Rita Ellen Anderton, born on August 22, 1957, in Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on June 10, 2025, in Independence, Missouri. She was a devoted caregiver to her family and a respected professional who dedicated her life to serving others.
A proud alumnus of Metropolitan Community College, Rita earned her associate’s degree in business and went on to become a financial advisor at the same college, where she worked until her retirement in 2016. She was committed to education and lifelong learning. Known for her generous spirit, caring nature, and meticulous attention to detail, she was truly a person who gave of herself freely and selflessly. Her impact on the lives of countless students was profound, offering them guidance and support as they navigated their educational pursuits.
Rita's most cherished role was that of a caregiver and matriarch to her family. Her capacity in these roles grew when she married Thomas “Scott” Anderton on January 30, 1993. She took immense pride in providing care for her loved ones, cultivating a nurturing environment that brought joy and support to all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas "Scott" Anderton; her son, Nicholas Beard; her daughter, Michelle Medley (Buddy Hicks); and her stepdaughters, Sheryll Potter-Beard and Deborah Beard-McLear-Baily. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Alexandra Beard, Taylor Martell, Katelyn Anderson, Kristina Medley, April Williams, and Justin Medley; as well as her great-grandchildren: Adilynn Ankrom, Penelope Anderson, Zane Williams, Izzabella Beard, and Austin Martell, Jr. Rita is also survived by her brothers, Terrell “Terry” Trowbridge and Benny Rice; and step-siblings, Clella West, Gewn Moore, and Richard Barr, who will remember her with affection and fondness. She was preceded in death by her father, Dillard Trowbridge; her mother, Patsy Ellen (Ham) Trowbridge; her sister, Cynthia Golden; her stepson, Billy Beard; and her grandson, Austin Martell.
A memorial service will be held in Rita's honor at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Heart of God Fellowship, located at 3720 N Buckner Tarsney Rd. in Buckner, Missouri.
Rita Ellen Anderton will be remembered for the love she shared, the lives she touched, and her unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her influence will be felt for generations to come, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
