Rita Barrett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home on Oct. 15, 2024.
Rita Sinon Barrett, 62, of Oakdale, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024, after a courageous four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Rita was born on June 30, 1962, to Michael and Carol (Horan) Sinon II. Born in West Hartford, Rita graduated from Northwest Catholic High School and later attended Morse Business School where she laid the foundation for a successful career as a bookkeeper, office manager and human resources manager.
Rita was a devoted single mother to daughters, Alissa, Mariah and Savannah. She considered her children her greatest achievement, and dedicated herself to raising them with empathy, kindness and love. Her most cherished title was Gramma, and she was able to spend the last four years of her life doting on her grandsons Malcolm and Warren, and her granddaughter Scarlett. Rita's favorite place was the beach. You could find her there any chance she got. From a young age Rita had a natural gift for creating. She crafted in many mediums including jewelry making, sewing, painting, macrame and mosaics to name a few. Her creativity and zest for life were matched only by her fierce honesty and sharp wit, which kept those around her on their toes.
Rita cultivated lasting friendships throughout her life, forming bonds that felt like family. She will be remembered for her kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love for those she held dear. Her courage in the face of a terminal illness left a lasting impression on everyone she met, inspiring both loved ones and strangers alike.
She leaves behind her daughters, Alissa Barrett, Mariah Barrett Jouver (Gary), and Savannah Barrett, along with her treasured grandchildren, Malcolm Jouver, Warren Jouver, and Scarlett Fowler.
Rita is also survived by her four adoring sisters, Joanne Sinon Boulais, Sheilah Sinon Paindiris (Peter), Maura Sinon Hackett (Bill), Katie Sinon DeHart (Eric), and eleven loving nieces and nephews.
Rita was predeceased by her only brother, Michael Sinon III, as well as her parents, Carol Horan Sinon, and Michael Sinon Jr.
Calling hours will be Friday, October 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rita's name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Donation Processing Center, PO Box 5041, Boone, IA 50950-0041. October 17, 2024

I am so deeply sorry to have read about the passing of Rita. I was a classmate of both Rita and Joanne at Northwest Catholic. What I most remember about Rita is her kindness and her smile. Although we were not close friends, I connected with her down-to-earth and warm, welcoming spirit.
Joanne and family, I send you my deepest condolences and pray that all the memories you hold close at heart will help ease your pain and sorrow.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Denise Salone Zalaski
