Rita Barton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rochette Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Jun. 19, 2024.
Rita Victoria (Lemay) Barton, 99, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred W. Barton with whom she shared 29 years of marriage prior to his passing on January 14, 1975.
Rita was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on December 28, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Omer J. and Yvonne (Dionne) Lemay. She attended the Presentation of Mary in Hudson and St. Louis High School in Nashua.
For many years, she worked as an operator for the former NE Telephone Co/Verizon and in her post retirement, Rita worked at Richard's Catering as well as the Hudson School System.
In her free time, Rita enjoyed traveling to various destinations, listening to music and in her younger years she liked to crochet and garden. She loved to remodel her home and always had a project going! Above all, Rita truly cherished time spent with her family especially around the holidays. Her door was always open and everyone knew they were welcome with open arms, love, and kindness.
Rita is survived by her six children, Susan Jeffery of Manchester, Helen Ahearn of Milford, Colette Levesque of Nashua, Pierre Barton and his wife Michelle of Nashua, Jeanne Marquis of Nashua, and Lucie Jeffery and her husband Kevin of Hudson, her daughter-in-law, Margaret Barton of Reno, NV; and two honorary daughters, Pearl Audit and Patty Barker. She is also survived by her sixteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and her two great-great grandchildren, as well as her sisters, Gertrude Ducharme of Nashua, Louise Guertin of Nashua, and Simonne Gamache of Nashua; as well as her former son-in-law, George Ahearn.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son Victor Barton, her grandsons, Scott Jeffery and Eric Kendall; her brothers, Victor Lemay, Gerard Lemay Sr., and Marcel Lemay; as well as her sister Cecile Riley.
Rita lived her life with grace and dignity. She will be forever loved and deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Hillsborough County Nursing Home for the loving care of Rita.
