Rita F. Broderick

Rita F. (O'Loughlin) Broderick, age 100, a longtime resident of Lowell and Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Broderick, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage until his passing in 2011.
Born in Lowell on August 9, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Mary (Curry) O'Loughlin. Rita graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 and devoted her entire career to caring for others as a nurse at St. John's Hospital in Lowell.
Gregarious and outgoing, Rita loved her work as a nurse and made many life-long friends at St. John's Nursing School and Hospital. The daughter of Irish immigrants, she loved Ireland and the Irish culture. Her life was centered around family, including her mother and father, her siblings, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, extended family, and her own children, all of whom she loved dearly. But the focus of her life, the rock of her life, was her husband John with whom she shared over sixty years of sacred and profound love.
Rita is survived by her children Peter Broderick and his wife Colden of West Newbury, Nancy Brady and her husband Joseph of Marblehead, and John Broderick and his wife Elizabeth of San Francisco, CA. She was a proud and loving grandmother to eight grandchildren Timothy Broderick and his wife Elizabeth, Katherine Broderick, Colden Broderick, Matthew Brady and his wife Jennie, Christopher Brady and his wife Taylor, Quinn Broderick, Delaney Broderick, and Luke Broderick. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren Winnie, Liza, and Peter, along with many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Rita was predeceased by her siblings Mary Perry, Gerald O'Loughlin, Eileen O'Loughlin, and Patricia Phaneuf.
During the last years of her life she was lovingly cared for by her caregivers Ann, Karen, and Susan, to whom she and her family are deeply grateful.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Road, CHELMSFORD. Kindly meet at the church. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, CHELMSFORD.
