Rita Hipps Chambers, 83, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Chester Jack and Marie Moore Hipps. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Freda Queen.
Rita was the epitome of Southern grace and charm. She lived a life defined by her faith, loved nature, and saw the beauty in God’s creation. She loved camping, spending time at Lake Chatuge, and gardening. Always a wonderful cook, Rita was famous for her dumplings, potato salad, and pound cake. She always set a beautiful table and was a gracious hostess. Most importantly, she loved her family fiercely and loved spoiling her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Frank Chambers, Jr.; two sons: William Frank “Bill” Chambers, III (Ellen) of Raleigh and Jason Chambers (Tamara) of Asheville; a sister, Katy Russell (Vernon) of Clyde; three grandchildren: Madeline Solis-Rosas, Paige Elyse Chambers, and Gabriella Seals; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Leatherwood and Mr. Vernon Russell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be later at Fincher’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fincher’s Chapel Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Judy McCracken, 2724 Hyder Mountain Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
The care of Mrs. Chambers has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton and an online memorial register is available at “Obituaries” at www.wellsfuneralhome.com.
