Rita Helen Kristensen

Rita Helen Kristensen, age 83, of Duluth passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 surrounded by the love and presence of her family.
Born on June 7, 1942 to Gustave Walfred and Mary Helen Benson, Rita was a lifelong Duluth resident and loved living near Lake Superior. She graduated from Denfeld High School in 1960. On April 25, 1964, she married the love of her life, Roger Willard Kristensen, and together they built a beautiful life grounded in love, laughter and devotion.
Rita had a deep love for animals and treasured the companionship of her beloved dogs Meggie and Jack, and her cat, Mia. She cherished time spent with her FAB5 ladies, and nothing brought her more joy than being with her family. Known for her kind, generous and compassionate heart, Rita will be remembered most for her deep love she held for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger W. Kristensen; parents, Gustave and Mary Benson; brother, Lawrence Benson; son-in-law, Bruce A. Olsen; and daughter-in-law, Lynanne M. Kristensen.
Rita is survived by her children: Patricia (Jeff) Birdseye, Lawrence Kristensen, and Sandra (Randy) Grumdahl; grandchildren, Jordan, Nathan, Anna, Cindy, Augusta and Becca. She also leaves behind many loving extended family members and dear friends, including her cousin Sal & Jim Michaelson and her best friend, Carol Goodman.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Essentia Health, especially Anthony-RN, Ruth-RN, Lilly-RN, Garret-RN on the 15th floor and Dr. Tabernero & Dr. Bjerk for their excellent care and compassion.
A private burial will be held at Oneota Cemetery. Family and Friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life during the beautiful fall season with details to be announced at a later date.
