Rita Kubera, age 95, of The Woodlands, TX, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024. She was born on December 5, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Jessie Cozzo, the oldest of six children.
She was a graduate of St. Vincent De Paul High School, class of 1946. She was united in marriage to Frank Kubera Jr. on April 30, 1955, who passed away in 2013. Frank and Rita settled in Redford, MI where they raised a family and lived for nearly 38 years before moving to Florida.
Rita was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She loved her children and cherished her role as Nana. She was always kind to strangers and loved striking up a conversation no matter where she went. While raising her sons she worked for a bank, was a devout Catholic and always active in her church and socialized regularly with neighbors and friends. Rita and Frank spent their retirement years in Florida where they remained active and traveled regularly, including many trips to Michigan and Texas to see family. In early 2020, Rita moved to The Woodlands, TX to be close to family. She resided at The Forum at the Woodlands and enjoyed her time visiting family, doing crafts, playing bingo, and exercising regularly.
Rita is survived by her three sons, Terry (Lorena) of Texas, Tim, and Pat (Vicki) both of Michigan; grandchildren Nicole, Brandon, Madison, Mitchell, and Michael; her sister Katherine (Ken) Wilsher; her brother John Cozzo; her sister-in-law Katharina Cozzo; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, her brothers Joseph and Robert and her sister Angeline.
Visitation Sunday 4 pm - 7 pm with an evening Rosary at the John N.Santeiu & Son Funeral Home. In state Monday 9:30 am until the 10 am Funeral Mass at Church of the Divine Child.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

I remember Mrs Kubera with great fondness because she was the mother of one of my best friends growing up. I lived two doors down from the Kubera Family on Mercedes. I spent oodles of time playing with Patrick and our other friends at the Kubera house. They had the best climbing tree in the front of the house and Mrs Kubera would provides lunches or snacks to all of us, especially in the Summer months when we were out of school. Playing board games on their front porch was so much easier, esp if it rained because their porch had an awning, so we could still play if it rained. Our "club" used the rafters of their garage for our meeting place. SO many fond memories!
