Rita Ann (Mudd) Lauer, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on January 12th, 2025, at University Hospital after a short illness. She was 59 years old.
Rita was born on July 27th, 1965, to Paul W. Mudd and Lucille Lynch Mudd. She graduated with a degree in early childhood education from Eastern Kentucky University.
Rita is survived by her loving husband, Michael Lauer; her brothers, Daniel Mudd (Jeanne Marie) of Tucson, Arizona, and Charles (Judy) Mudd of Willisburg, Kentucky; and cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul W. Mudd and Lucille Lynch Mudd; her brothers, W. Wallace "Wally" Mudd and Paul W. Mudd II; and her miscarried daughter, Sarah John.
Rita dedicated her education to nurturing young minds as a teacher of early childhood development. Her passion for early childhood development influenced her interactions with children throughout her life. Rita and Michael shared a deep love for the natural world. Their honeymoon was a memorable camping trip in the Canadian Rockies, setting the tone for years of enjoying nature together. They found solace and joy in exploring the outdoors, appreciating the beauty of God's creation.
Faith was central to Rita's life. She and Michael were devoted to their Catholic faith, attending daily Mass, and actively participating in various spiritual communities. They dedicated hours to prayer through their involvement with a Catholic charismatic group, a prayer group, and Bible study. Their shared faith also extended to their active involvement in the Right to Life movement, where they passionately advocated for the sanctity of human life. Their faith provided them with strength, comfort, and a deep sense of purpose.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Sunday, January 19th 2025, 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40205. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 20th 2025, 11:00 am, at Saint John Paul II Catholic Church, located at 3539 Goldsmith Lane, Louisville, KY 40220.
Interment will follow at the chapel of Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road, Louisville 40205. There will be lunch at the St. John Paul II Parish Center after the interment. Lunch following the interment at the Saint John Paul II Parish Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Little Way Pregnancy Resource Center (littleway.org) in Rita's memory.

Rita was my bestie when we were 10 and 11-years old. I have many fond memories of her and her mother. Even though we lost touch through the years, Rita came to my father“s funeral in 2014, and I was thrilled to see her. Rest-in-peace, Rita. The world is a better place because of your kindness.

Mike,
I remember Rite and you well from CAC, a singles group, and from running into you at the Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville IN, and at noon Mass at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Churc on Bardstown Rd.
She was a delightful person and I'll keep both Rita and you in my Prayers.
God Bless.
